Toyota prefers tougher fuel economy;

Toyota has taken a position in stark contrast to other automakers in regards to the new fuel economy standards that the Obama administration is looking to set along with the EPA. The new regulations may impose fuel efficiency rules or recommendations by the summer of 2012 for automakers to improve fuel economy. California Toyota Dealership businesses currently sell fuel efficient models such as the Toyota Prius which should have no trouble meeting the new regulations. Denver Toyota Dealership also sell the Toyota Prius with both used and new models available for sale.

Honda Dealers Wexford sell the Honda Accord Hybrid and Honda will also be releasing a number of hybrid models over the next few years in order to compete with Toyota. The Obama administration has high goals for fuel efficiency, and is not looking to set these regulations into effect anytime soon. The goals may be set as high as 62 miles per gallon for vehicles produced in 2017-2025. However, Toyota has shown enthusiasm for these new regulations, as a company spokesperson has said “that’s the direction Toyota is already going.” And it seems to be that way, with Toyota producing a hybrid RAV4 and looking to release several other electric or hybrid models in the next few years.

A new family of Prius models that Toyota announced several weeks ago show the direction that the company is heading with its future releases. Toyota feels comfortable in its ability to achieve 62 mile per gallon fuel efficiency, but that number is very much up in the air and by no means a sure standard that automakers will have to reach. The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers which includes Toyota and the Detroit 3 has taken an opposite position and is weary of the new regulations. The alliance said that the suggested fuel economy numbers are very preliminary and based on incomplete data. A long discussion and battle for the final fuel efficiency numbers is sure to take place over the next several months.
